Performs intermediate-level operation of tractor driving under limited supervision. When not operating tractor performs skilled Vineyard Technician. Involved in the planting and maintenance of vineyards, which involves preparing the soil, erecting trellis and irrigation equipment, and planting. Performs routine tasks on a vineyard such as cultivating and fertilizing the soil, planting, training, pruning vines, and picking grapes.General Description and Duties:
Under limited supervision, performs intermediate-level tractoring tasks such as:
Operating wheeled tractors to perform tasks such as chopping & mowing, hedging, pre-pruning, disking, standard cultivation, spraying/dusting, harvesting, leaf removal, under vine cultivation, placing implements on tractor & equipment.
Able to operate irrigation pumps
Support frost control
Safe operation of forklift
Calibrating of cultivation equipment in the field in conjunction with Vineyard Manager and spraying and dusting for application of various chemicals which includes all aspects of the task; mixing load, filling sprayer/duster, being safety conscious of drift during the application, and cleaning of sprayer/duster.
Performing daily equipment checks and some light mechanic skills are required.
During the winter months, the driver may be required to assist in the maintenance and/or work with the hand crew.
Schedule varies, up to 6-days per week/10 hours a day & may require seasonal night work & extended hours during harvest.
Mentor less experienced Tractor Drivers
Position Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to follow directions as given by supervisor and work under limited supervision.
Proactive communication with supervisor, mechanic, and vineyard technicians
Basic knowledge of vineyard maintenance cycle such as pruning, harvesting, planting, leafing, tying, thinning, trellis repair, etc.
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in a team/crew environment, and adherence to all safety regulations, quality, and operating procedures.
Must be able to work late night & early morning shifts to accommodate the application of materials to plants.
