As a Principal Engineer of Camera Software, you will lead large architectural and implementation initiatives with peers in engineering to create ground-breaking features, scale our infrastructure, and empower our greater camera engineering team with a well-thought-out platform approach. You are an inspiring innovator, mentor, and coach, conversant and passionate about emerging opportunities, a thorough strategist who is equally comfortable and capable interacting with technologists as with senior business executives with the ability to articulate the value of the proposed solution.
You will be part of a small team of hardworking Senior Engineering talent reporting to the Senior Director of the IoT team. Your technical leadership will span or at least influence everything from full stack cloud software, embedded software, QA, video processing, database design and computer vision applications. You lead by example and demonstrate excellence in collaboration and communication across engineering teams, utilizing creative problem solving and a consistent track record for leading and directly contributing to the launches of new platforms and/or transformational architecture changes.
Your focus will be on ensuring the rest of the team has the direction and tools they need to deliver high-quality innovative products on time. You will directly and indirectly be assisting other engineers with their career development through example and active coaching. You will seek to align collaborators to our most significant objectives, offering a technical vision for both the team and product that keeps everyone motivated, growing, and attracting the best talent looking forward.
About the team
The Meraki Camera Software Team is responsible for building a secure and stable camera ecosystem that captures and records video, analyzes what is in the scene using on-device computer-vision algorithms to generate actionable insights for all users. Our solution is all seamlessly run remotely via the cloud, where the team continues to craft intuitive interfaces which make reacting and investigating events of interest as easy as possible.
In this role, you will:
Lead by example and are a hands-on architect building system alongside a team.
Working with collaborators to set product vision, define, and deliver on technical roadmaps spanning multiple organizations or teams.
Drive complex projects and direct a team of engineers to build and deploy critically important, 24x7 solutions in a SaaS environment.
Lead our next generation cloud architecture to achieve horizontally scalable, cloud-managed services that can support our future growth and empower developers to maintain a rapid pace of innovation.
Cultivate a culture of craftsmanship where development and quality engineers work together to deliver a high-quality experience throughout the entire product lifecycle.
You are ideal for this role if you have:
15+ years of related experience and are recognized as a strategic problem solver in internal and external forums, with extensive technical, market and business expertise.
A proven ability leading process and culture changes that inspire and grow multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Experience with modern application development methodologies (CI/CD, Agile/DevOps)
An interest in getting consensus and setting technical direction across a large engineering organization.
Experience in building from scratch and/or evolving large web applications.
Experience developing and optimizing large-scale backend applications demonstrating your public cloud knowledge (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Deeply skilled in full stack web technologies and languages (e.g. JavaScript, React, Go, Ruby/Rails, Scala)
Linux Administrator, versatile in console commands, scripting, utilities (PERL, Python, BASH)
Experience building systems that are performant at enterprise scale.
Familiarity with distributed systems development, container & container orchestration technologies
Experience working and helping build test automation systems, deployment pipelines.
Bonus points for:
Knowledge of relevant camera and video technologies (RTSP, HLS, WebRTC, WebSockets, h.264/h.265 client-side rendering)
Knowledge of wired and wireless networking protocols

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
