Granny Smith Mine (GSM) is an underground gold mining operation located 740km northeast of Perth, Western Australia.
Our people fly to the site on a chartered jet departing Perth Airport’s Terminal 2 four days a week to Laverton with a travel time of around 85 minutes, or via road for employees residing in host community towns including Laverton and Kalgoorlie.
Role Details
Gold Fields in Australia is currently seeking a Lead OHS to join their Sustainable Development department at Granny Smith Gold Mine.
Reporting to the General Manager and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be committed to supporting the OHS guidance and strong guidance to a range of personnel. You will be responsible for supporting all OHS activities with the objective of meeting high safety standards including maintaining Zero Fatalities, reducing Recordable Injuries as well as mentoring and coaching the existing team.
This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off, 4 days on 3 Days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.

About the role:
- Create, support, and manage all OHS Regional Sustainable Development Strategy/Plan via the development, implementation, and monitoring of a Site OHS business plan.
- Implement the integration of these health and safety plans at the site by anticipating issues, challenges, and risks that may affect the plans and strategy.
- Coach and advise business leaders and individuals on how to adhere to the organization’s OHS policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to safeguard the safety and well-being of others and mitigate potential risks
- Support and collaborate a team of dynamic individuals, you will influence and drive an engaged workforce through activities including leadership development, employee engagement, career development, and performance management.
- Oversee and contribute to the Emergency Services, Security, Injury Prevention, and Management functions as per requirements of the site.
About you
You will have:
- A tertiary degree in OHS or related discipline
- Additional qualifications in commerce, frontline management, or similar would be beneficial but not essential
- A well-established career in OHS in an operational setting which displays knowledge of OHS, risk management, emergency response, and injury management in the resources sector
- Skills to collaborate as an integral member of a multifunctional management team, contributing to the generation and delivery of long- and short-term strategic requirements (including consideration of revenue, expenses, management of personnel)
- Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations
- High-level organizational skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
