Title: Senior Electromagnetics Compliance (EMC) Engineer/ Electromangentic Interference (EMI) Engineer
This role is for a Senior Electrical Engineer/ EMC Engineer with experience and strength in Electromagnetics Compliance engineering in Mountain View, CA or Redmond, WA. The job candidate will have a thorough understanding of EMI/EMC standards as they pertain to military and commercial applications along with background in relevant measurement equipment and simulation software. The candidate will be responsible for the EMI/EMC design of sub-systems. This includes providing feedback and recommendations regarding electrical/mechanical design, based on simulations or test results from the EMI/EMC lab. The iterative design during the product development requires suggestions of mitigation methods in response to regulatory failures. The candidate should have expertise in analysis of failures and the techniques required to identify and solve problems in a high reliability cost effective product.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, think critically, work collaboratively, and be able to analyze & distill complex issues.
Responsibilities
- PCB layout reviews
- High-speed routing
- Capacitor selection and placement
- Filtering for EMC
- Optimal routing to minimize CM noise
- Power/GND shapes and stitching
- Flex circuit layout reviews
- Mechanical review for EMC
- EMC testing, debug, and solutions, to ensure compliance
- What-if simulation studies for EMC mitigation and the trade-offs with respect to electrical and mechanical performance as well as other product requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar field. PhD preferred
- Minimum 8 years experience designing electronic systems
- Understanding of relevant standards regarding emissions and immunity requirement:
- MIL-STD 461 and 464
- FCC part 15, CISPR 22, 32, 24, and 35
- Deep understanding of HDI PCB design and PCB design tools like Cadence Allegro
- Familiarity with Time Domain and Frequency Domain analysis
- Proven excellent ability to work well with cross-functional teams
- Thorough understanding of the relationship between physical layout and electrical performance
- Hands-on experience with electromagnetic and/or circuit modelling tools and such ADS, HFSS, CST, Cadence and HSPICE
- Experience with network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and high-speed scopes
- Experience with EMI/EMC test facilities, equipment, electromagnetic coupling path analysis and debug
