Microsoft TEALS is an industry-leading volunteer and community-driven program which builds computer science (CS) teacher capacity with schools and districts across the United States and BC, Canada. The TEALS Program recruits, trains, and matches industry tech professional volunteers with high schools to teach computer science (CS) courses with existing classroom teachers. TEALS has partnered with 450 high schools and 1,500 volunteers this past school year and taught approximately 14,000 high school students. The TEALS program is a part of the Digital Inclusion and US Community Engagement team within Microsoft Philanthropies.
As the TEALS Associate Regional Manager Lead (ARML) in the Southeast region, you will have a broad set of responsibilities to build and grow the TEALS program in the Southeast region. Reporting to the Southeast Regional Manager (RM) Lead, the Southeast ARML will assist with regional leadership and oversight, program execution, and day-to-day responsibilities to ensure the success of the TEALS program in the region. The Southeast ARML can be based in any state in the Southeast region of the United States (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee).
Responsibilities
Technical recruiting and relationship management:
- Recruit, interview, and place a diverse pool of TEALS industry volunteers.
- Develop a regional network of volunteer technology professionals.
- Represent TEALS at companies, conferences, and external events.
- Manage volunteers within the region, and ensure they have a great TEALS experience.
School relationship management:
- With a focus on equity, recruit, interview, and successfully onboard a diverse set of TEALS partner schools.
- Help to promote enrollment of diverse students into TEALS classrooms.
- Provide support to teachers as needed to build regional CS teacher capacity.
- Build relationships with school district administrators, school building principals, counselors, schools, foundations, and in‐service teachers.
Training and Mentoring:
- Train and support volunteers and teachers throughout the TEALS partnership.
- Visit schools and conduct class observations to provide support and feedback to volunteers.
Regional Oversight
- Help to train, onboard and oversee TEALS vendor regional managers in the Southeast region.
- Work with RM Lead in Southeast region to ensure effective relationship with suppliers.
- Ensure continuous successful regional outcomes by providing teaching team and school support and coverage as needed.
Program management and operations:
- End-to-end management and implementation of TEALS in the region following programmatic guidelines.
- Build regional CS education community among students, schools, volunteers, and partners.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders from the regional educational community, corporate, government, and other organizations.
- Manage and coordinate PR and Media in the region as directed by the corporate communications team.
- Provide timely feedback on challenges and opportunities in the region to help inform broader programmatic changes.
- Contribute to TEALS program-wide projects as needed.
- Support TEALS Regional Managers to execute internal training.
- Work with the Regional Manager Lead to manage the regional budget.
- Work closely with the TEALS RM Leads and others across the Microsoft Philanthropies organization and internal partner
- Microsoft groups to ensure the success of the region.
- Travel to regions (0-25%) across the Southeast and some national travel to establish and manage community relationships and to train and support Regional Managers. Note – Microsoft is currently limiting travel to essential travel only, and this role will not resume travel until this company restriction is lifted.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant education/non-profit/corporate social responsibility/industry working experience.
- 3+ years of relevant people/project/partnership management working experience.
- 1+ year of working with and supporting a geographically dispersed team.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Computer Science background
- Experience working in Education- classroom teaching experience a plus.
- Experience with team or vendor management
- Experience supporting programs with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and racial justice.
- Experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.
- Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience with volunteer recruitment and management, school recruitment and management and project management
