The Mott MacDonald Group Legal Department is a dedicated in-house team of legal professionals based at our head office in Croydon, UK and other offices around the globe. The Department is responsible for providing high quality legal advice on all matters associated with the Group's day-to-day business.
What you will contribute to the team:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including consultancy agreements, framework agreements, NDAs, software licences and SaaS agreements.
- Identify departures from our governance as part of the review of such commercial agreements and assist project teams in obtaining the necessary internal approvals where appropriate.
- Advise business on applicable laws and regulations.
- Revise and maintain legal templates for use across the Group ensuring they reflect current best practice and legislation.
- Draft and update legal guidance to raise awareness of recurrent topics and new regulations.
- Advise business on disputes and insurance matters, which may include liaising with outside counsel and technical experts.
- Assist with Group projects including company formations and mergers and acquisitions.
- Provide support and assistance to more senior members of the Legal Department, on more complex matters, other teams within the Legal Department such as the Ethics & Compliance, and Privacy and Data Protection teams.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in law and/or hold a suitable post-graduate legal qualification. Some practical commercial law experience gained in private practice or in-house would be an advantage but is not essential. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of legal disciplines including mergers and acquisitions, company law, contract law, construction law, software, technology, intellectual property, disputes and claims, insurance, regulatory investigations and employment law. This is an incredible opportunity to be exposed to significant and industry-defining projects which shape the communities we live in.
This role would be based in Croydon and report to one of the Senior Legal Counsels. The role will primarily serve our European business although you may also get the opportunity to assist our other regions including the Americas, Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand. It will require daily interaction with project teams and regional senior management.
You will need to be reliable, hard-working, confident and self-motivated, and always willing to challenge yourself. You will be expected to demonstrate that you can take on your own matters (dependant on your level of experience), as well as assist senior members of the Department with more complex matters. Additionally, you will benefit from support from the entire Department.
You will be a person who is capable of managing their own busy workload and is self-reliant, but is equipped with excellent teamworking and communication skills as you'll be advising key stakeholders
Required for the position of Paralegal:
- Law degree in a common law jurisdiction and/or equivalent post-graduate qualification.
- Relevant experience either in private practice with a top national firm or in-house, would be an advantage.
- Fluent in English.
- Appreciation of how to apply legal principles in a commercial law context.
- Great analytical skills and excellent legal knowledge.
- Ability to multitask, problem solve, and balance competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a bigger team.
