We’re proud to be one of the largest gold producer listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. From our Head Office in Melbourne, we work closely with our operations both local and global to safely operate and grow.
Based on St Kilda Road, our Melbourne Head Office is easily accessible by public transport or car, with discounted parking available, and located across the road from Albert Park Lake. Who we’re looking for
As a key member of the Newcrest legal team, you will work closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to provide wide ranging strategic, legal and regulatory advice and support to the business in relation to the Newcrest Mining Limited Group’s operations and corporate activities.
Your role will require you to collaborate with our people, assets, partners and stakeholders to provide timely, high quality, proactive, fit for purpose legal and regulatory advice to protect, support and advance Newcrest business activities, projects and growth activities. You will be involved, amongst other things, in:
- drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of business agreements tenders and advices.
- supporting a range of projects, permitting and approval processes, and other growth activities;
- supporting litigation and other dispute resolution processes.
- oversight and leadership in respect of legal risk management and support compliance with Newcrest’s policies and procedures.
- oversight and management of external lawyers.
You will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s in law, with between 5- 7 years post-qualification practising experience in a leading Australian or international law form and/or in-house legal team.
You will be a self-starter with strong communication and interpersonal skills ready to take initiative and multitask in this dynamic, challenging yet highly rewarding position.
Additionally, you will have:
- Admittance to practice law in one or more Australian Jurisdictions and hold a current practicing certificate.
- Experience in the areas of commercial law, mining law (including joint ventures), HSEC regulatory requirements, contract law, disputes resolution and litigation.
- Experience in major transactions and complex projects, including construction/development projects and mergers & acquisitions.
- Strong analytical skills and experience in interrogating data to provide actionable management insights
- Excellent team working skills, with a strong work ethic and ability to effectively prioritise
