Do you enjoy collaborating closely with the business rather than practicing law from the sidelines? As our Corporate Counsel (P&C), you'll support our evolving insurance businesses and work directly with the people making day-to-day decisions. The work ranges from high-volume contracts such as NDAs to more nuanced carrier, MGA/MGU and regulatory matters. You'll have room to take ownership, develop relationships and become a trusted legal resource for the businesses you support.
This role is a strong fit for an attorney who understands how the P&C insurance business operates and can turn legal analysis into practical guidance. Experience working with insurance carriers, MGAs/MGUs, brokers or related insurance businesses is especially valuable. Prior business-side insurance experience is also welcome.
What You'll Do
- Draft, review and negotiate carrier agreements, MGA/MGU and program administrator agreements, client service agreements, NDAs and other commercial contracts.
- Advise business teams on P&C insurance operations, regulatory matters, risk management and contract issues.
- Review carrier and client agreements, identify meaningful legal and business risks, and recommend practical solutions.
- Support MGA/MGU operations and carrier relationships as business needs and regulatory requirements evolve.
- Partner directly with business leaders to understand their objectives and provide timely, business-focused legal guidance.
- Handle routine agreements efficiently while knowing when an issue requires deeper analysis or escalation.
- Ask questions, gather information and collaborate across legal and business teams to resolve issues.
- Monitor relevant P&C insurance regulatory developments and help the business respond to changing requirements.
- Contribute to legal team initiatives and share knowledge with colleagues across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of legal experience involving the property and casualty insurance industry.
- Experience working with an insurance carrier, MGA/MGU, insurance broker, regulatory agency or insurance-focused law practice.
- Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
- Strong solid understanding of P&C insurance operations and the relationships among carriers, brokers and insurance intermediaries.
- Ability to identify legal and business risks and translate them into clear, practical recommendations.
- Ability to independently manage priorities, follow through on commitments and seek additional information when needed.
- Communication skills that build credibility with legal colleagues and business partners.
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be valuable:
- Carrier agreements or carrier relationship management
- MGA, MGU or program administrator operations
- Commercial Lines insurance
- Retail insurance brokerage
- P&C insurance regulatory matters
- Claims or related risk issues
- Business-side experience within the insurance industry
