The Enterprise Data Platform, Engineering and Architecture Team

Okta is looking for a seasoned leader to join our team as a Director, Enterprise Data Platform, Engineering and Architecture who will lead the design and development of our data platform and associated data engineering and architecture initiatives.

The Director/Sr. Director, Enterprise Data Platform, Engineering and Architecture

In this role, you will report to the VP, Business Technology (BT) Data and Insights and work closely with the other teams across Data and Insights (product, engineering business analytics, data science, and governance and operations) to identify and prioritize data needs and architect solutions that will ensure our data infrastructure is scalable, resilient, reliable, and secure. You will drive innovation by staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.

The successful candidate will be an experienced data leader with excellent communication skills and experience supporting analytics initiatives with new data integrations, data engineering, and modeling best practices to enable the effective build of reporting and self-service capabilities.

The role requires outstanding strategic, organizational and leadership skills and an ability to develop innovative solutions that push boundaries. You will work closely with executives to strategize and develop long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity and success for the company.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and maintain cross-functional relationships with stakeholders across the organization
  • Hire, lead, mentor and develop a team of data engineers and architects
  • Be a bridge between various BT teams and the engineering product data teams
  • Collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on data initiatives and projects
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and budgets
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve the customer experience and strengthen relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Communicate with our internal customers and stakeholders using empathy and a customer-first mindset

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Technical degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an analytical field
  • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or related roles
  • 10+ years’ experience leading and managing engineering or data teams
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment
  • Track record of building and scaling resilient data platforms, infrastructure, and systems
  • Experience with big data technologies (data warehousing, data lakes, machine learning) and ETL processes
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms and architectures like AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Familiarity with continuous integration, containerization, and microservices patterns
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Able to effectively lead and meet business objectives in a global, collaborative, and high-performance work environment
  • Understanding of change management methodologies
  • Able to resolve issues and mitigate roadblocks consistently and collaboratively
  • Excellent team management, career planning, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Business acumen with the ability to understand business priorities
  • Experience managing projects and resources to execute and deliver complex projects on time and within budget
  • Knowledge of a modern tech stack of cloud applications such as Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, Salesforce, MySQL, Fivetran, dbt, Tableau

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$204,000$296,000 USD The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $227,000$329,000 USD
