What is the Role?
Engineering graduates joining SSEN Transmission will be at the forefront of building a better world of energy for future generations.
As a part of SSEN Transmission, The National HVDC Centre is looking for Electrical Power Engineering Graduates to support the power system studies to de-risk the deployment of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission technologies to deliver our net-zero targets.
Over the next decade, the electricity transmission network that we operate will be dramatically reshaped by HVDC to integrate massive offshore wind power to achieve net-zero. Our team of power system experts are key to enabling and de-risking this journey.
A typical day in the HVDC Centre could involve developing models of the transmission system and carrying out analysis with specialist simulation tools to identify feasibility, risks and mitigation to support planning, commissioning and operation. Or you could be engaging with our multiple stakeholders in a technical workshop, supporting the delivery of training courses, or preparing a paper for an international conference. You will develop expertise in world-leading simulation tools and methodologies to plan our future transmission system.
HVDC Centre Graduates will follow a ‘specialist’ pathway. Specialists will work with experts in SSEN Transmission’s Asset Management and Operations directorate, gaining exposure across the team and building a depth of knowledge to utilise in their substantive post. This pathway aims to provide relevant experience which will lead to a permanent substantive post on completion of the programme.
