The Superintendent Exploration is accountable for execution of brownfield / greenfield exploration activity in an approved focus areas with either country, regional or single project accountabilities. The function is responsible for field execution of technical work programs designed to simply and effectively test for giant resource potential. The role ensures field execution of exploration activities in accordance with approved Exploration and Operations plans. The function is accountable for all technical field activities within mandated area of accountability including the day to day supervision of discrete projects from early stage reconnaissance through to business unit handover or divestment, as defined by the Vice President Exploration.
Accountabilities span Prospectivity Mapping, Opportunity Selection, Target Generation, Target Testing and Delineation phases as outlined in the Exploration Management System (WWD). The role is accountable for designing, planning and safely executing exploration programs matched to Technical Decision Trees; and designing, planning and executing government, community and stakeholder engagements.
Role is accountable for tracking and reporting on regional exploration trends and opportunities within the Region or area of accountability.
The role is accountable for, communicating Exploration Vision, Strategy, business requirements and KPI´s within area of accountability and aligning all field exploration activities with these objectives.
The role is responsible for maintaining, developing and ensuring that project exploration and operating capacity and capability are aligned to technical field exploration requirements.
About the Role cont.
In this role you will:
- Provides input and advice on identification, evaluation, prioritisation and selection of discovery opportunities for pursuit within area of accountability
- Maintains current knowledge on third party exploration results, regional exploration activity and trends. Pro-actively provides feedback on regional 3rd party intelligence to the Country Manager Exploration and the Commercial group.
- Provides input to Screening Notices and Investment Approval Requests for work programs. Collaborates with the regional Operations team (budget development) Geoscience Team and relevant Functional Support Teams
- Provides input to the Exploration Project Plan, incorporating the development and approval of the project
- Technical Decision Tree for approval by the VP Exploration
- Accountable for field testing of drill targets, including definition of exploration work required to identify and prepare targets for drilling.
- Accountable for target definition activities on discovery opportunities are effectively planned, executed and progressed to build and maintain a portfolio of drill-ready exploration targets;
- Endorses the Field Operations Plan and ensures that field activities deliver the planned exploration work program requirements, working closely with the Manager/Superintendent Operations;
- Ensures that target testing effectively tests for Giant resource potential, quality and logging of drill results and transfer of core and/or samples for assaying
- Completes capture, analysis, interpretation, storage and archive of data to required standards
- Ensures that field executes of drill delineation activities are executed and to effectively define Giant resource potential and that results are promptly communicated to ensure key project progression and/or exit decisionsare made in a timely manner;

- Executes geoscience work program requirements for delineation ensuring they are appropriately delivered against plan and budget;
- Accountable for executing technical work program requirements assure consistent, high quality exploration.
- Accountable for managing regional relationships with related Superintendent Operations to ensure planning and delivery of all exploration activities against schedule and budget.
- Works with Government and Community relations functional experts to maintain on ground relationships and license to operate.
- Accountable for the field execution of Exploration projects acording to standards; including preparation and input to periodic Appraisals, and close-out of identified actions;
- Verifies that Exploration projects and offices have demonstrated capacity to effectively plan for, manage and recover from crises and emergencies;
- Executes plans for the management of advanced exploration project handover to relevant CSG, including transition of mineral title; exploration activities; data, commercial, financial and legal handover; and staff transition (if required).
- Provide functional leadership to the operation of an in-country office and team, where established by the Head of Region.
- Recruits, allocates and develops the in-field Exploration capability in region
- Manages headcount in accordance with approved workforce plans and budgets
- Prepares for internal appraisal and assurance audits for area of accountability and ensuring that actions identified are closed out
- Establishes strong relationships with contracting partners and ensures on the ground understanding and alignment on objectives and plans
- Inputs to regional or project Exploration talent and succession planning
About You
- Geologist Degree or Similar.
- Substantial experience in Greenfield Exploration Porphyry Copper
- Experience in Leading Teams
- Planning and execution of exploration work programs
- Experience interacting with key stakeholders including communities and business partners
- Sound exploration judgement, balancing technical, commercial, operational and risk elements using incomplete and/or ambiguous information
- Multi-geographical Experience
- Performance management, including measurement, tracking and reporting of exploration project delivery and results
- Understanding of greenfield exploration geoscience inputs and activities
