Microsoft’s Quantum research group is exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world’s center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. This effort requires a new level of quantitative device simulations to be developed, with the aim of predicting quantum behavior not previously possible.
Responsibilities
You will be part of a team of physicists and engineers seeking to design topological qubits. You will develop simulation tools to describe the dynamics of topological qubits and predict their performance for quantum information processing, including quantum error correction. You will closely collaborate across teams ranging from nanofabrication to qubit control to quantum error correction research.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- PhD in theoretical physics or related field
- Experience in high-performance numerical simulation of quantum systems.
- Research background in quantum dynamics.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- 2+ years post-PhD research experience.
- Background in topological and mesoscopic device physics.
- Background in quantum error correction.
- Experience with collaborative code development in Python or Julia.
