About the role:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our collaborative and high-performing Finance team. As one of the Senior Financial Accountants, you will be responsible for providing high level accounting and financial services across Box Hill Institute.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing operational and capital expenditure in line with approved budgets and objectives
- Management of the fixed asset register and identifying opportunities for optimisation
- Overseeing financial transaction processing, journal adjustments, tax returns, reconciliations, period-end accruals, and the ongoing management of the chart of accounts, ensuring accurate reporting
- Ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual requirements including audit management
- Providing high level advice to stakeholders; driving a culture of operational excellence that aligns to BHI values and strategic goals
- Leading a small team; supporting their capabilities and growth opportunities

This is a full-time, ongoing opportunity that reports directly to the Financial Controller and sits within the Finance area of the Operational Services division.

About you:
- Relevant degree and/or post graduate qualification in commerce and/or accounting.
- CPA/CA accreditation or working towards completion.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role within a large organisation (Educational sector advantageous) including management of financial resources, project management, banking, and asset management operations in a public sector organisation.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and other applicable financial reporting requirements.
- Ability to provide sound advice and guidance to managers and employees on a broad range of finance and accounting issues.
- Experience in working collaboratively as part of a team to achieve organisational objectives and team goals.
- High level of critical analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify gaps and look for logical sequences of information.
- Ability to regularly plan and track progress on work tasks.
- Works independently and proactively identify opportunities outside of standard practice
- Victorian Working with Children Check and National Police Check clearance
