The Project
ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel - Stage 2, Sydney's third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.
Project scope includes:
- Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
- Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fit-out of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
- Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway
In line with the above, ACCIONA are now looking for Tunnel Ventilation Engineers.
Specific Tasks Include
- Conduct simulations, and airflow modelling to assess ventilation requirements.
- Prepare system resistance calculations, engineering drawings and technical specifications for the complete tunnel ventilation system.
- Integrate ventilation systems into the overall tunnel design and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential ventilation-related hazards.
- Provide technical expertise and support during construction, installation, and commissioning.
- Manage subcontractors and work closely with suppliers to deliver on design, quality, testing, and programme requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of tunnel ventilation principles, including aerodynamics, air distribution, and ventilation system design.
- Strong understanding of relevant safety codes, standards, and regulations related to tunnel ventilation systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
