The Project
ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel - Stage 2, Sydney's third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.
Project scope includes:
- Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
- Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
- Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway

In line with the above, ACCIONA is now looking for a Project Engineer to join the Construction Team.
Specific Tasks Include
- Assist the Senior Project Engineer in overseeing the day-to-day road header operations, ensuring smooth and efficient excavation activities.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret data related to road header performance, ground conditions, and progress, providing regular reports to the project team.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to provide input on road header tunnelling methods, equipment selection, and ground support systems to ensure safe and effective execution.
- Maintain accurate records of road header activities, equipment maintenance, and safety inspections, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Support the implementation of safety protocols and guidelines, conducting safety briefings, and actively promoting a culture of safety awareness among the workforce.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous experience (at least 3-4 years) in mined tunnelling projects or construction projects involving road header operations is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of road header machinery and its operational principles.
