ACCIONA Rail has recently been awarded a new intermodal rail hub project in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, the Somerton Intermodal Terminal. Somerton is an exciting new $400m Design and Construct (D&C) project that will involve, groundworks, track renewals, heavy duty pavements, structures, and signalling.
Somerton Intermodal Terminal is a flagship project for the freight rail industry and will offer a location that services the longer train profiles proposed as part of the Federal Governments Inland Rail commitment.

The Cost Controller is a critical role within the Somerton Intermodal Terminal Project delivery team, reporting into the Finance Manager you will maintain, monitor, and improve the systems which will ensure costs and forecasts are accurately known and controlled.
Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Support development of standard cost control procedures, guidelines, templates, coding etc. to allow consistent cost management and reporting across the cost control team and support compliance to the standards.
- Create and maintain project cost reports projects throughout the project lifecycle.
- Utilise standard cost control procedures and processes including WBS, monthly report, change control, management of budgets, forecasting, financial support relating to contract administration and project cost close out to help ensure a consistent approach across a portfolio of projects.
- Assist Engineers and the broader Project team in decision making by constantly monitoring budget and expenditure changes, as well as providing regular updates of project status.
- Support Engineers with progress claim assessment, pricing schedule.
- Development, tender evaluation, contractor change assessment and contract financial close out.
- Apply earned value management tools and techniques to interpret data and provide timely insight and recommendations on project and program performance.
- Review and investigate unusual trends in cost codes, dockets, and invoices to determine if cost codes are up to date and correct.
- Monthly analysis of costs codes, actuals, and accruals, in the lead up to the end of month closure.
- Review costs spent to date vs contracted amount.
- Report on payments on time and/or ABCC Reporting.
- Develop knowledge in using SEO and SAP software.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce/Business (or similar).
- 5 years' experience in a Cost Controller position or similar in a construction project setting.
- Track record of implementing cost control systems and procedures in large infrastructure projects.
- Experience analysing high volume data sets.
- Current Driver Licence and your own reliable vehicle.
