ABOUT THE ROLE
The Remote Development Manager focuses on facilitating and overseeing AFL programs and competitions throughout West Arnhem Land to achieve lasting health, fitness, well-being, and social cohesion outcomes. All community-based AFL programs are designed to facilitate safe, inclusive, and professional environments for all participants and stakeholders. Community-wide AFL programs are delivered to enhance and promote high school attendance, social inclusion, positive lifestyle choices and safe communities.
This is a 24 month max term contract in Maningrida.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide weekly AFL administration support to host safe, well-governed, and inclusive AFL competitions for males and females for adults and youth.
- Support the development of female football through targeted programs and competitions.
- Recruit, mentor and oversee casual staff, trainees, and community football volunteers.
- Coordinated community-based Auskick and Game Development activities.
- Deliver in-school AFL programs aligned to AFLNT Game Development programs to support high school attendance and good behaviour.
- Proactively collaborate with other service providers and organisations to support community cohesion and safety in Maningrida.
- Host AFL events and activities to support and promote targeted health messages and initiatives.
- Facilitate and support the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre programs and student residential camps.
- Support talented AFL players throughout West Arnhem Land to engage NT State Academy, NT Thunder, and Next Generation AFL programs.
- Keep up-to-date reporting and participation statistics on AFL participation outcomes.

- Ability to work with and proactively influence people.
- Understand and demonstrate the ability to coordinate, train and recognise volunteers in the football environment.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, meet deadlines and utilise on-ground support to achieve key outcomes.
- Availability to work weekends and after hours.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills, and ability to build rapport with a diverse range of people.
- Able to manage and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to manage all gear and equipment for football programs and competitions, including ordering supplies.
- Ability to manage AFLNT fleet vehicles, including regular servicing and condition reports.
- Ability to manage budgets and deliver all AFL programs within allocated funding structures.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness.
- Experience in remote Indigenous communities
- Ability to be self-aware and seek appropriate support when required during difficult times.
- Ability to work with the structures and policies of the AFL, AFLNT and the AFLNT Remote projects team.
- Ability to travel regularly to remote Aboriginal communities for program delivery.
