About the Role:
We're seeking a skilled Remote Drone Technician to join our team. This role offers a flexible, family-friendly Monday-to-Friday roster, with a paid leisure day off, every four weeks, allowing you to balance your work and personal life.
The Remote Drone Technician is responsible for traveling between the Alcoa sites in WA including Bunbury, Wagerup, Pinjarra and Kwinana Refineries, Willowdale and Huntly Mine sites, to perform Drone and remote inspection work across all of our WA Operations.
The use of remote drone technology will provide the business with a safer, more efficient, and effective suite of tools to support our operations.
The role will perform and capture civil survey data and capture of tailings ponds, mining areas and refinery areas, and will use drone technology for the facilitation of remote sensor inspection of assets including – fixed plant, internal vessels and tanks, conveyors, HV power assets, cable trays and environmental tasks
Key responsibilities will include:
Set up and pilot drones to capture civil survey data of tailings ponds, mining areas, and refinery areas.
Conduct remote sensor inspections of assets such as earthmoving equipment, fixed plant, internal vessels and tanks, conveyors, HV power assets, and cable trays.
Train and coach Alcoa employees to become qualified drone pilots.
Assist in trials and testing of new drone equipment, systems, and inspection methods. Develop, document, and train others on these new techniques.
Contribute to the development of drone governance documents, procedures, and safety protocols, including reviewing and approving flight plans.
Identify and develop new inspection opportunities by building strong relationships with site and operations personnel. Work collaboratively to understand, document, and deliver business benefits in a structured and integrated manner.

What you can bring to the role:
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
CASA RePL for 7kg aircraft, (25kg+ an advantage) - Must hold, or be close to obtaining
Tertiary qualifications in technical field such as Survey, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Thermograph, Electrical/Electronic, or Structural would be an advantage
Drone operations experience and proven expertise in drone piloting and maintenance
A safety-first attitude, someone who demonstrates strict adherence to safety regulations and procedures
Technical proficiency - with a strong understanding of aerial data capture and analysis
Problem-solving Skills, and the ability to identify and resolve technical challenges
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and attention to detail
Strong teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to work and ability to adapt to changing priorities
Previous experience in the mining or construction industry preferred
