About the Role
As our Maritime Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping and optimising Alcoa’s flow of goods ensuring the seamless and timely movement of bulk product and raw materials between ports and destinations. Your expertise in freight shipping and logistics will help drive operational efficiency across our regional operations and ensure the safe delivery of critical resources.
Reporting to our Director – Maritime Operations and being part of a global team, your role will be pivotal in planning, coordinating and executing marine logistics strategies for ocean bulk and ocean break bulk whilst working closely with various teams to optimise shipping operations, reduce costs and mitigate risks.
Your key contributions and responsibilities will be:
Leading and enhancing business relationships between Alcoa, customers and suppliers, ensuring that customer satisfaction and financial performance objectives are achieved.
Negotiating and managing bulk and breakbulk contracts for the regional locations.
Understanding the changing dynamics of the global ocean markets and what counter measures are required due to weather, war, piracy, change of foreign governments and the sourcing needs of an ever-changing portfolio of plants, suppliers and customers.
Providing expert global and regional advice on shipping and related matters and preparing recommendations for improvement outcomes.
Developing and executing chartering and contracting strategies to optimise freight, performance of logistics assets and infrastructure.
Using market knowledge and industry contacts to advise on strategies in relation to regulatory compliance and changing requirements.

What you can bring to the role
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Supply Chain, Logistics or a related discipline.
Proven experience in maritime logistics, port operations and freight strategy development within a large scale and diverse commercial environment.
Detailed knowledge and expertise in marine transportation pricing strategies, regulatory requirements and logistics challenges specific to the mining and resources sector.
Strong collaboration and communication skills with an ability to work across multiple teams and external partners.
An analytical mindset and solution focused approach with an ability to organise and prioritise activities strategically with a sense of urgency.
