About the role:
Reporting to our Senior Carrier Contract Manager, a fantastic opportunity is on offer for you to join Ampol’s Carrier Operations Team.
In Carrier Operation, you will be counted on to ensure the Safe, Seamless, and Sustainable delivery of bulk fuels around Australia to power better journeys.
The role will manage the daily activities associated with the cartage of bulk fuels to various Ampol customer sites including Retail Convenience, Commercial and Mining. You will ensure incident free operations, cost effective outcome and compliance with all Ampol statutory regulations. You will also be working with the Carrier Operations Team to implement and develop effective ongoing strategies to fulfil our purpose.

Typically, in the last month as a Contract Carrier Manager, you would have:
- Carried out several site inspections.
- Attended weekly operational team meetings.
- Carried our negotiations relevant to a cartage agreement or a rail freight contract.
- Coordinated incident response and completed a thorough incident investigation.
- Travelled intra/interstate to attend a mine site or a customer site to understand operations and iron out any snags in delivering our products.
- Carried out at least one loss prevention observation each week.
- Attended a carrier toolbox meeting.
- Prepared shift utilisation reviews
- Assisted in preparing and facilitating our Quarterly Carrier Safety Forum
- Developed, uploaded, and shared material to our Online Carrier Partner Portal
- Held monthly operations meetings with carriers.
- Held quarterly Board of Review meetings with carriers.
- Attended our Terminal-Carrier BBQ to meet drivers and discuss any issues facing them.
- Worked collaboratively with our B2B and Retail Business Managers to meet customer needs and operational requirements.
- Attended our leadership team meeting at Ampol Head Office (Sydney) for strategic planning.
- Worked from home for 2 days per week and from one of our terminals or Head Office for 3 days.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure provision of an effective fuels, supply chain and logistics service (Terminal to Customer) aligned to Ampol’s Bulk Fuels Cartage Strategy
- Understand customer requirements, ensuring deliveries are conducted in a safe, seamless, and sustainable way.
- Support the development and implementation of Ampol’s Bulk Fuel Cartage Strategy
- Manage safe fleet operations to ensure compliance to statutory, regulatory and Ampol standards.
- Steward continuous improvement to achieve an incident free target.
- Ensure daily schedules are executed with continuous engagement with the Scheduling Team.
- Conducting site assessments at customer sites working with stakeholders to ensure a safe delivery environment.

- Tertiary qualifications/degree in logistics
- Safety stewardship and incident investigation experience
- Operational knowledge of relevant laws and statutes applying to the transport of petroleum products including OH&S, Environmental, Dangerous Goods and Transportation rules and regulations
