About the role:
This position will be on a permanent basis at our Lytton Refinery in Brisbane, providing process safety engineering services and taking a lead role in driving improved process safety performance through facilitation of PHAs (HAZIDs, HAZOPs), LOPA, Bowtie, SFARP and risk assessments, Management of Change,,.leading process safety related incident investigations, reporting of process safety performance, communications, and engagement.
This critical role will liaise with multiple levels of stakeholders around the refinery to ensure most significant process safety risks are understood, propagated, and progressed with a variety of technical decisions to improve safe performance of the process area or processing units; this may include but not limited to operations, technical & engineering superintendents, process engineers, external process safety and risk consultants and refinery operators.
Key responsibilities.
- Facilitate Process Safety workshops such as PHAs (HAZIDs, HAZOPs), LOPA, Bowtie, SFARP demonstration.
- Identifies and implements continued process safety improvements to reduce the likelihood of a significant process safety incident.
- Facilitates risk assessment through approved risk processes including the refinery PRA process.
- Leads process safety incident investigations following recognised root cause analysis methodologies.
- Coordinates process safety studies such as consequence assessments including dispersion studies to improve understanding of risk.
- Develops appropriate action plans and communicates outcomes to stakeholders.
- Manages the studies actions tracking process and supports asset owners with progressing and validating action items.
- Maintains the Refinery Safety Case including the QRA and acts as a lead resource in periodically updating the Safety Case to support MHF licence renewal.
- Analyses process safety performance information to identify trends and opportunities to improve process safety performance.
- Maintains awareness of process safety industry trends, best practices, and applicable regulations
- Performs Safety Systems Inspections, Safeguard Field Checks, Critical Controls Verification and Loss Prevention Observations on a regular basis to verify controls, assess process effectiveness and identify gaps.
Skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering / Chartered Professional Engineer
- Minimum 5 years total experience with at least 3 years’ of preferred experience in Oil Refining or Petrochemical Industries
- Knowledge of risk management, safety assessment (LOPA, Bowtie, SFAIRP), PSI, MoC and PSSR processes
- Strong teamwork facilitation, project management and communication skills
- Proven performance in hazard identification and assessment and knowledge of relevant engineering, process safety standards and regulations in Australia
- Desired knowledge of Refining Process Technology, utilities, and best practices.
- Desired training as HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie & SFAIRP workshops leader. Preferred PHAST & Bowtie development softwares experience.
