Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Regis Resources Ltd (30%), Tropicana produces approximately 450,000 ounces annually. The Tropicana operation comprises a significant open pit mine with a 6 year life as well as the newly developed the Boston Shaker underground. The Boston Shaker underground has a mine life of 7 years with significant exploration upside being realised with a large brownfields drilling budget to support Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve growth creating an exciting future. Coupled with this, working at Tropicana provides the opportunity to work with a gold mining major on a stable, long life and well managed operation.
Accountable to the Senior Safety Advisor, this role is responsible for providing advice, support and services to the various Site Departments as required in the application of OHS practices.
The role is an 8/6 (or variant thereof) FIFO roster to Tropicana Gold Mine, with flights from Perth or Kalgoorlie and is being offered as a 12 month fixed term contract.
The main tasks of the roles include:
- Providing a high degree of safety and health support and advice to the operational departments of the site including Mining- Underground, Mining – Open Pit, Processing, Mobile Maintenance, Drill & Blast, Fixed Plant Maintenance and Projects and Infrastructure.
- Demonstrate safety leadership and improve the safety culture through developing line capability in delivering their safety accountabilities
- Continually review, propose and where approved, contribute to the development of improved safety systems and procedures to optimise safety for life of mine
- Provide coaching and mentoring to supervisors, employees and contractors in all areas of safety, behavioural and culture change, and leadership development
- Coordinate DMIRS communication via SRS
- Monitor action recording and close out from incidents, investigations, audits, planned inspections, safety meetings and conduct action verification to the required standard
- Complete internal OHS audits and participate in OHS internal /external audits
- Lead the safety interaction process for site
- Assist with the overall implementation of safety systems, strategies & initiatives
- Providing facilitation, assistance and guidance in incident investigations, HSE meetings, safety inspections of equipment and work practices on the site
- Assist in maintaining the HSE management systems on site
- Participate in high level incidents and accident investigations as required and monitor incident reporting
- Ensuring compliance with OHS regulations as well as company policies and procedures
- Leading, facilitating and participating in risk management processes for the Mine Site
- Assist in drug and alcohol testing
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in safety
- Strong organisation and computer literacy
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an OHS practitioner in the mining industry
- Working knowledge of the Mines Safety Inspection Act and Regulations
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in HSE management systems such as INCONTROL
- Qualification in incident investigation such as ICAM/Taproot
- Current "C" Class Western Australian drivers licence or equivalent
- A 'can do' attitude with a strong desire to succeed in the role and a passion for health, safety, environment and community
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and engagement skills
- Experience in document development
- Understanding of process safety management
- Experience in delivering safety training
- Authorised drug collection officer qualification
- Internal auditor qualification
- Cert IV Training and Assessment qualification
- Ability to pass a National Police Check
- Existing and ongoing Permanent working rights (Mandatory)
- You must be able to provide a COVID-19 Digital Certificate or current Immunisation History Statement showing vaccination against COVID-19 or that an exemption to vaccination has been granted and recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register
