Located in the Laverton region, AngloGold Ashanti Australia's Sunrise Dam is one of Western Australia's premier gold operations. In late 2020 a new satellite open pit was approved (Golden Delicious) which will supplement the large-scale underground operation that employs more than 900 people and produces approximately 250,000 ounces of gold per annum. Ongoing investment in underground and regional exploration at Sunrise Dam has extended the mine life to 2031, with the opportunity for further extensions.
We are now seeking a Superintendent Metallurgy - Production to join our Processing team on a permanent basis, on an FIFO (8/4 – 4/5) roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie. Relocation assistance is available for the successful candidate.
Accountable to the Manager: Processing, this role will the role will be responsible for managing a high-performing team within the Metallurgy – Production functional area.

About The Role
Working within the Processing Team, the Superintendent Metallurgy – Production provides technical leadership for the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine operation. Managing a diverse and dynamic team within an autonomous work environment, your leadership skills and collaborative approach will enable you to work with stakeholders both within the Processing Team and across other site departments.
Reporting to the Processing Manager, the role will be responsible for managing a high-performing team that are accountable for identifying process improvement opportunities, analyzing metallurgical data and providing technical support and recommendations.
With a passion for Metallurgical practice, you will:
- Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards
- Set plant operating parameters, investigate deviations, and define improvements
- Manage the metallurgical accounting and reporting system, and production reconciliations
- Manage short (monthly) and medium (quarterly) term production forecasting and cost forecasting,
- Provide inputs to the annual Business Planning Cycle, including production and cost forecasting, and capital projects
- Oversee operation of the on-site Laboratory, Desorption and Gold Recovery circuits
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset to optimise cost, production and effective use of resources
- Set performance expectations (KPIs) and delegate work to a team of professional direct reports, and manage the overall team of approximately 14 people
- Identify training needs to ensure that the team is staffed with competent people capable of performing their duties in a safe and sustainable manner.
- Networking across departments to identify, understand and drive business improvement functions
- Provide suitable site coverage for the Manager: Processing, whilst absent from site.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgical/Process/Chemical Engineering
- Demonstrable experience in various Metallurgical/Operational roles incorporating crushing, grinding, gravity recovery, flotation, leaching and tailings management
- Solid knowledge of gold processing stages, metallurgy accounting practices, business improvement processes, along with cost reporting and budget development Demonstrated experience managing and developing direct reports
- Display excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with people across multiple levels
- WA police clearance and valid Australian Working Rights are required
