The Opportunity

At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our Infrastructure Delivery team in our Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth office on a full-time basis for 2 years.

Reporting to the Commissioning Lead, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and compliant commissioning outcomes across APA's growing portfolio of gas infrastructure projects. Acting as a technical commissioning specialist, you will support projects from planning and documentation through to testing, start-up and operational handover, ensuring assets are commissioned to the required standards and ready for safe operation.

With a strong project pipeline secured for the years ahead, this is an opportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure projects while partnering with experienced engineering, construction and operational teams. You will enjoy a high degree of autonomy, influence project outcomes, and be recognised as a trusted technical expert within your discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning and pre-commissioning activities across major gas infrastructure projects from planning through to operational handover.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, work instructions and associated documentation.
  • Provide technical commissioning expertise during project design and delivery to support efficient and safe commissioning outcomes.
  • Plan and coordinate commissioning, plant shutdown, start-up and functional testing activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage commissioning interfaces with vendors, contractors, project teams and operational personnel to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to commissioning standards, technical excellence and continuous improvement across the business.

Your Background

  • Demonstrated experience in commissioning, pre-commissioning, start-up or operational readiness activities within energy, gas, LNG, power, utilities, mining or other process industries.
  • Strong technical expertise in Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I), controls, instrumentation, process systems or a related discipline.
  • Experience planning and executing brownfield and/or greenfield commissioning projects, including testing and asset handover.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, construction, operations, contractors and vendors.
  • Engineering qualifications or a trade-based technical background supported by significant commissioning experience.

At APA, you'll join a collaborative and values-driven team where safety, integrity and continuous improvement are at the centre of everything we do. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and rewarding infrastructure projects while developing your expertise within one of Australia's leading energy infrastructure businesses.

Travel of approximately 30% will be required, primarily across East Coast project sites.
