The Opportunity
We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Pipeline Engineer to join us in our Infrastructure Engineering team in Brisbane or Melbourne on a full-time permanent basis.
Reporting to the Team Discipline Lead- Pipelines, you will play a key role in support and lead engineering design, technical document preparation, package engineering, construction and commissioning engineering activities in the delivery of projects for new assets and upgrades to existing pipelines, end of line facilities and interconnecting plant and equipment.
The pipeline team is engaged in many different gas projects including design of hydrogen pipelines and facilities. Due to increase in workload, the team is seeking a new member to join our exciting times moving forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate as an integral member of a design team as a Pipeline Engineer for APA’s growth projects,
- Undertake stress analysis and reviews including model creation and calculations,
- Undertake Flow induced vibration analysis and review third party reports regarding FIV
- Prepare design calculations and documentation for Prefeasibility, FEED and Detail Design Phases and ensure engineering and design documentation prepared by APA, external engineering service providers, or vendors meet project/stakeholder requirements, statutory and licence requirements,
- May be required to contribute to package for pipeline related packages such as linepipe, MIJ, valves and actuators, high strength fittings,
- Will be required to travel to site or other APA offices for short periods
Your background
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Civil Engineering admitting to corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia or equivalent (Required),
- Chartered or Registered Professional Engineer (Preferred and eligible for admission),
- Working knowledge of gas transmission industry including equipment such as valves, actuators or pipe traps etc,
- Proven experience in design for gas transmission pipelines and stations is essential,
- Knowledge of hydrogen pipeline design to ASME B31.12 (essential),
- Knowledge and practical use of Australian and International Pipeline and related Standards (AS2885, ASME B31.3, B31.8, and B31.12). Must have knowledge and exposure to associated Australian and International reference standards,
- Knowledge and practical use of Australian and International Equipment and related Standards (API 6D, API 5L, AS 3862).

The pipeline team is part of the Infrastructure Engineering Team providing front end design / detailed design on all APA major gas pipeline projects and pipeline relocation projects in Australia. This financial year APA designed and delivered over $1.5 Billion dollars of infrastructure projects for the business, for example, Western Outer Ring Main in Victoria, Northern Goldfield Interconnect Pipeline in Western Australia, Kurri Kurri Lateral in New South Wales, Winchelsea Compressor Upgrade and East Coast Grid expansion along the east coast of Australia.
