The Opportunity

At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineering Officer to join our Engineering and Technical Solutions team on a permanent full-time basis, ideally based in NSW. Candidates located in Brisbane or Melbourne will also be considered.

Reporting to the Team Lead Pipelines (East), you will play a key role in supporting and partnering with state-based Project Managers, providing technical leadership and coordination to enable the safe and effective delivery of projects across the portfolio. This role has a strong field-facing and delivery focus, with regular time spent on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level technical and delivery support across all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept through to construction, commissioning, handover and close-out
  • Coordinate and manage technical activities to ensure project outcomes are delivered in line with approved scope, standards, safety, and schedule requirements
  • Act as a key technical interface between project teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Support Project Managers with planning, execution, and resolution of technical, commercial, and delivery issues
  • Lead and oversee construction, commissioning, handover, and close-out activities in the field
  • Provide on-site leadership to contractors and field teams, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of works
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, with a strong focus on productivity, cost reduction, and value creation through insourcing opportunities
  • Build and maintain collaborative, productive working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and customers

Your Background

  • Bachelor of Engineering or relevant technical/trade background (highly regarded), with project management experience ideally in asset delivery or brownfields environments
  • Demonstrated experience delivering brownfields pipeline projects, including excavation, repairs, and modifications
  • Strong field experience with proven field leadership capabilities
  • Background in oil & gas, power generation, or similar asset-intensive environments, including design, construction, and commissioning
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, with confidence engaging a broad range of stakeholders
  • Willingness to spend extended periods in the field, including remote project work when required (NSW-based candidates with local asset familiarity preferred)

About the Team

Infrastructure Projects is a passionate, multi-disciplinary design and delivery team spanning engineering and project management. The team delivers projects across APA’s asset base, including natural gas transmission, power generation, renewables, and electricity transmission. These projects play a critical role in ensuring APA’s assets continue to meet customer, community, and regulatory expectations, supporting APA’s vision to be world-class.

If you’re looking to play a senior, hands-on role in the energy industry—where you spend real time in the field, take ownership of delivery, and actively contribute to cost reduction and smarter ways of working—this is the role for you.
