About the Opportunity
We are now seeking applications from a System Administrator to provide long term sustainment and feature enhancement to support the operation of the enterprise configuration and maintenance management system for the Collins Class submarines.
Responsibilities
As part of the established system administration team, you will:
- Administer Linux and Solaris servers in a VMWARE ESX virtual environment.
- Install, configure, maintain and upgrade software on servers and desktops.
- Monitor and maintain servers, disk arrays, backups and network devices.
- Apply security patches when available.
- Build and deploy applications and data developed in-house by the software team.
- Architect and deploy hardware replacements on a periodic basis.
- Maintain Oracle databases containing mission critical data.
- Provide Level 2/3 support for the systems under your responsibility.
- Be part of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities, sponsoring and continuously driving for change.
- Take responsibility for system and data security.
Skills & Experiences
We are interested to hear from people from all levels of experience. If you are a recent graduate with a qualification in ICT (University or Diploma level) and are looking for this type of role, or if you have previous experience in a System Administration or related role, we encourage you to apply.
You will need proven experience with:
- Linux System Administration, including Backup and Recovery
- Scripting, e.g. BASH/PowerShell.
- Server Virtualisation Technologies, e.g. VMware ESX.
- Server hardware configuration.
Experience with the following would be advantageous:
- Basic Network Administration
- Oracle or similar database administration
- Microsoft Windows Server Administration
- Configuration Management of Systems and Software.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to:
- Apply a structured problem solving approach to a broad range of technologies.
- Contribute to the team and be able to work independently.
- Identify improvement opportunities, sponsor and continuously drive for change.
- Engage and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Tackle new challenges and grow in the role with training.
Eligibility
This role requires Australian citizenship and eligibility for Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your suitability for this role is dependent on you being able obtaining and maintain such clearances and approvals. Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
