About the Opportunity
ASC have an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer or Technical Officer (all seniority levels considered) to join our maintenance team on a permanent, full-time basis and based in Adelaide, SA.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role will involve providing essential engineering support to ensure the safe and efficient operations and availability of the Collins Class Submarine fleet.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering tasks of a technically challenging nature which demonstrate knowledge of engineering fundamentals;
- Development of electrical documentation such as specifications, schematics, investigations, assessments, test procedures and engineering reports;
- Support the reliability of systems and conduct root cause analyses;
- Produce safety and technical risk assessments in accordance with the Defence Seaworthiness Management System;
- Analysis of defects and problems reported, as well as the development of remedial and corrective actions to overcome and prevent re-occurrence of such defects and problems.
Integral to this role will be your ability to interact and communicate effectively with a diverse group of professionals, provide problem solving solutions and have the confidence and professional demeanour to influence.
Skills and Experiences
- Bachelor of Electrical or Electronics Engineering or similar.
- Diplomas in relevant engineering fields will be considered for Technical Officer placements.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and technical knowledge in engineering.
- Ability to prepare well-structured and concise reports.
- Experience with working through integration issues with stakeholders to find acceptable solutions.
- Ability to build and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with stakeholders, as well as the drive to motivate yourself and others, and embrace personal development.
- Eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.
Desirable competencies and experiences - not mandatory
- AC & DC Power conversion and distribution systems and equipment.
- Power generation and battery systems and equipment.
- AC & DC motors and starters.
- Experience with naval maintenance and/or operation of maritime systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS) and its application to Engineering Delegations and Risk Levels.
- Knowledge of operating in Submarines or the Shipbuilding engineering environment.
- Experience in providing technical repair instructions and /or overseeing work conducted.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals. Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
