About the Opportunity
Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in shaping Australia's maritime future? Join us at ASC as the Chief Engineer - VCS, where you will be accountable for the overall seaworthiness and technical excellence of the Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) program. This is your chance to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with international partners, and make a lasting impact on our nation's defence capabilities. The role will require you to work at Western Australia facilities at Garden Island and Henderson shipyard.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain engineering governance and compliance systems.
- Develop and oversee training programs to ensure suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP).
- Set requirements for technical processes, tools, and systems, and review their implementation.
- Provide technical advice and expertise to support corporate initiatives.
- Manage and motivate a diverse team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Ensure compliance with technical, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of engineering policies and practices.
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering and post-graduate qualifications in management or engineering.
- Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia, ideally with EA EngExec accreditation.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in marine engineering or shipbuilding, with a focus on high-value complex projects.
- Extensive knowledge of naval shipbuilding processes and standards.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
- Demonstrated experience in developing strong, outcome-focused multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with excellent problem-solving skills.

Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
