Have you always wanted to work overseas? Are you looking to expand your career with the opportunity to receive world-class training?

An exciting career awaits you at ASC. We built Australia’s Collins Class submarines, sustain the Collins Class fleet, and have been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in Australia.

To deliver on this new work, ASC are seeking experienced Radiological Controls Monitoring Technician to undertake long-term, world-leading training, primarily based in Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i.

Placements are available for August 2026 for a duration of approximately 1.5 - 2.5 years.

Responsibilities

As a Radiological Controls Technician, you will:

  • Contribute to the radiological monitoring and control program, ensuring dose management, contamination prevention, and public protection

  • Communicate radiation safety requirements and produce management plans, audits, corrective actions, and compliance reports

  • Coordinate multishift monitoring teams across waterfront and shipboard locations

  • Resolve complex radiological issues and assess new monitoring equipment and procedures

  • Liaise with internal teams and external agencies, and prepare clear technical reports and incident documentation

  • Ensure compliance with safety controls and PPE requirements in high-risk environments, including noise, heat, chemicals, and ionising radiation

Eligibility Criteria

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Certificate III in a science or mathematics related discipline (or equivalent)

  • Tertiary qualifications or experience in science, mathematics and/or safety related discipline (highly regarded)

  • Knowledge and experience in radiation protection or radiation management (highly regarded)
  • Additional training and certificates in WHS and/or OHS (desirable)
  • Australian Citizenship

  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training, carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

As part of this opportunity, you will be required to complete training in Virginia, located on the East Coast of the United States. This training is expected to comprise approximately six months of your total deployment period.

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.

Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.

Benefits

We’re here to support you prior to deployment and when you are overseas. As an ASC employee working overseas, you will have access to a host of great benefits:

  • Be paid to work, train, and live in the United States

  • Work on world-class nuclear-powered submarines with cutting-edge nuclear technology

  • Have access to benefits and entitlements to support relocation and your time living and working overseas

  • Return home to a secure job with ASC in the future nuclear-powered submarine program

  • Access to ASC’s extensive employment benefits

Next Steps

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to organise a phone call for a further discussion to the opportunity.

Early applications are encouraged as shortlisting may commence immediately.
