We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

The SSN AUKUS Build program is being conducted in Australia by a joint venture of ASC and BAE Systems, currently referred to as The Australian Shipbuilder. This role is based in Australia and is integral to the development and delivery of sovereign submarine capability.

The Equipment Engineer will support the SSN AUKUS Build Program at Osborne, South Australia. This role is responsible for defining, specifying and assuring the industrial equipment required to deliver a safe, modern and efficient submarine construction facility. You will collaborate with key stakeholders, suppliers and designers to ensure equipment is procured, tested and accepted in line with technical, schedule and operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver key engineering artefacts including equipment performance specifications, statements of work, drawings, training plans, templates and reports for the SCY.
  • Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, submarine designers, shipbuilders, Defence/Government and ANI.
  • Execute equipment assurance activities including design reviews, factory and site acceptance testing, qualification, training and final acceptance.
  • Lead equipment qualification to demonstrate fitness for purpose, safety and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Manage effective communication, progress reporting and issue resolution across infrastructure, project and PMO teams.
  • Support and participate in workshops, supplier meetings and site activities as required.
  • Ensure integration of key requirements across security, safety and ICT, including compliance, risk assessments and system interfaces.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Project Management.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering technical projects in industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience managing equipment procurement, design, manufacturing, installation and/or commissioning.
  • Experience working in complex and multidisciplinary technical environments.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and requirements management principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Effective communication, reporting, time management and organisational skills.

A degree of flexibility is required in working hours, to support engagements with colleagues in other time zones. This role may also require periodic or regular overseas travel.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1). Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.
