Director, Environmental Planning Queensland

At Aurecon, we are engineering optimists who see the world differently. We ask what’s possible and turn ideas into impact. Here, you’ll bring your expertise to challenges that matter, alongside people who think boldly and are determined to make a difference.

What you’ll do

As a Director in our Queensland Environment and Planning team, you’ll lead complex environmental planning, approvals and Environmental Impact Statement work across major infrastructure and industry projects.

You’ll join a growing team of more than 80 environmental professionals across Queensland, supported by an established group of senior technical and market leaders. Working across transport, water, energy, resources, airports, defence and emerging infrastructure, you’ll help clients navigate complex Queensland and Commonwealth approval pathways and confidently progress major projects.

Based in Brisbane, Mackay, Gladstone or Maroochydore, you will:

  • Lead the strategy, pursuit and delivery of complex environmental approvals and Environmental Impact Statements under Queensland and Commonwealth legislation.

  • Advise clients on approval pathways, environmental risks and opportunities, including matters under the EPBC Act and Queensland State Development processes.

  • Build trusted client relationships, identify new opportunities and contribute to major Queensland and national pursuits.

  • Lead multidisciplinary technical studies and engagement with State and Commonwealth regulatory agencies.

  • Take ownership of project performance, including technical quality, scope, budget and schedule, while coaching and supporting environmental professionals.

Your experience and expertise

You combine strong technical knowledge with commercial thinking, collaborative leadership and a genuine interest in helping clients and teams succeed.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Law or a related discipline.

  • Significant experience in environmental planning, assessment and approvals, ideally gained in a consulting or multidisciplinary project environment.

  • Recent experience leading Environmental Impact Statements and complex approvals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
and Queensland legislation, including the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971.

  • Experience engaging and negotiating with regulatory bodies, including the Queensland Office of the Coordinator-General and relevant State and Commonwealth departments.

  • Strong client relationship and commercial skills, with the ability to identify opportunities, win work and contribute to major proposals and pursuits.

  • Experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary technical teams, with a collaborative approach to coaching and developing others.

You may already be operating at Director level, or you may be an experienced senior environmental professional ready to grow into a broader leadership position. What matters most is your technical credibility, client focus and ability to work collaboratively with an established senior team.

How we support your growth

Engineering possibilities for your career means having room to shape what comes next. You bring your ambition and commitment to lifelong learning, and we provide the foundation and development to help you turn your aspirations into achievement.

The Aurecon Way guides how we think, act and work together, what we value and how we invest in our people. You’ll be part of a culture built on clear expectations, optimism and determination, where you can feel safe, included and empowered to speak openly, think boldly and deliver brilliantly.

Who we are

We are an engineering consultancy with more than 6,000 people across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. We believe the world needs people who can engineer possibilities; people who can create infrastructure that makes life better for people and the planet. That is why we are here, to bring ideas to life, the Aurecon way.
