Environmental Consultant – Environment and Planning

At Aurecon, we are engineering optimists who see the world differently. We ask what’s possible and turn ideas into impact. Here, you’ll bring your expertise to challenges that matter, alongside people who think boldly and are determined to make a difference.

What you’ll do

As an Environmental Consultant in our Environment and Planning team based in Queensland, you’ll take on environmental and planning approvals, environmental management and environmental design management for major projects, helping shape solutions for our clients and communities. You’ll work across disciplines, test ideas and find better ways to solve complex engineering problems.

  • Manage and support environmental and planning approvals for major projects under the guidance of senior staff, developing approvals strategies and resolving issues as projects evolve.
  • Prepare approval applications, environmental and impact assessments, policy advice and technical reports, coordinating and consolidating specialist inputs.
  • Develop environmental management plans and risk assessments, and support construction and operational environmental risk management using standard technical practices, procedures and policies.
  • Interpret Commonwealth and State legislation, policy and approval requirements to advise clients, support stakeholder consultation and liaise with regulators.
  • Contribute across renewable energy, transmission, coal seam gas (CSG), mining, resources, transport, water and other infrastructure projects.
  • Support environmental design management by integrating environmental requirements into project design and delivery with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist with project scope, budget, scheduling and resource coordination to deliver quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Support proposals, tender submissions and business development opportunities when required.

You may also be required to undertake other reasonable duties from time to time to support the purpose of the role.

Your experience and expertise

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental policy, planning, engineering, law, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately three to six years of relevant post-graduation experience in environmental planning, approvals, impact assessment or environmental management.
  • Experience in environmental engineering, environmental science, construction, contracting, government or a client-side environment role. Consulting experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with Commonwealth and State approvals processes, knowledge of environmental policy and legislation, and strong technical analysis skills. Construction environmental management experience is also valued.
  • Project exposure in one or more of the sectors outlined above. Experience across multiple sectors is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong report writing, verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide well-reasoned advice, manage multiple tasks and work autonomously or collaboratively with technical teams.

How we support your growth

Engineering possibilities for your career means having room to shape what comes next. You bring your ambition and commitment to lifelong learning, and we provide the foundation and development to help you turn your aspirations into achievement.

The Aurecon Way guides how we think, act and work together, what we value and how we invest in our people. You’ll be part of a culture built on clear expectations, optimism and determination, where you can feel safe, included and empowered to speak openly, think boldly and deliver brilliantly.

Who we are

We are an engineering consultancy with more than 6,000 people across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. We believe the world needs people who can engineer possibilities; people who can create infrastructure that makes life better for people and the planet. That is why we are here – to bring ideas to life, the Aurecon way.
