About Ausgrid

Ausgrid is on an exciting energy transition transformation journey, and now is the time to be a part of something big! As a leader in energy distribution, we are proud to service Sydney, the Hunter and Central Coast, delivering safe and reliable electricity to more than 1.8 million homes and businesses – that’s over 4 million Australians relying on us every day.

Our purpose is to make electricity accessible for all, and it’s our people that bring this to life. As we continue to grow, we are in search of exceptional talent to help us achieve our goals.

At Ausgrid, we are powered by diversity. Our customers come from all walks of life, and so do we! We are committed to creating a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workforce, and encourage applications from various backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, individuals with disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Your new role

At Ausgrid, we’re modernising how data and AI shape the way electricity is delivered across NSW. As our Lead Data Architect, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing and shaping enterprise-scale data and AI solutions that support critical business outcomes today and for tomorrow.

This is a permanent full-time role and reports into the Manager, Data Services and Platforms team and is based at our Haymarket Sydney Office.

As Lead Data Architect, you will:

  • Lead and provide architectural oversight to solution architects across data and AI programs

  • Design and govern end-to-end solution architectures aligned to enterprise standards and patterns

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to senior leaders to support informed decision-making

  • Influence technology selection across Azure-based data and AI platforms

  • Manage architecture risks and technical debt to ensure scalable, sustainable solutions

  • Partner with business leaders to understand value chains and identify opportunities where data and AI create impact

  • Participate in architecture governance and contribute to continuous improvement across the enterprise

What you bring to the role

Our hiring decisions are not only based on your experience and skills, but your passion, attitude, and alignment to our core values.  You’re a confident architecture leader with deep technical capability and strong stakeholder influence. You’ll have:

  • Proven experience leading or mentoring solution architects in complex delivery environments

  • Deep expertise in Azure, Azure Databricks, and modern Lakehouse architectures

  • Strong understanding of data products, medallion architecture, and enterprise data platforms

  • Experience architecting AI, ML and LLM solutions at scale

  • Ability to simplify complexity and articulate the “big picture” across business, data and technology

  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences at varying levels

  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying current with data and AI trends
