Your team and work environment
At Ausgrid, you will be working in a small team of Structural/Civil Engineers, Engineering Officers and Design Development Managers who form part of a wider engineering team.
You will also work with a wide range of both internal (maintenance staff, field staff, layout engineers, earthing engineers, structural engineers, asset owners) and external design consultants to ensure coordination and development across different design disciplines.
Your new role
As Senior Mechanical Engineer you will lead the detailed design, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency in HVAC and fire protection for the substation environment. As subject matter expert (SME) in mechanical engineering you will also lead mechanical and hydraulic design initiatives across a range of electrical infrastructure. The role offers ambitious candidates the chance to not only excel in mechanical engineering but expand their leadership capabilities through the management of multi-disciplinary teams.

You will be passionate about design/design management of mechanical and building related projects within an industrial environment such as the utilities and energy space and have comprehensive knowledge of relevant Codes, Standards and Guidelines. You will be technically minded and desirably have experience in the management of multi-disciplinary teams during the feasibility, development, design and documentation phases of projects and programs. This position requires a strategic thinker who can not only execute analytical problem solving and commercial decision making, but effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
To be considered for this role, you should possess the following skills:
- Degree qualification/s in Mechanical Engineering and be eligible for membership of Engineers Australia
- Proven capability and substantial experience in project development, design, and documentation of fire engineering, HVAC and associated systems relevant to industrial and/or process engineering
- Extensive technical experience related to Mechanical engineering in industrial and/or process engineering
- Highly productive with strong team ethics and ability to work independently
- Work collaboratively across various functional groups
- High level of communication skills both oral and written
- Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, engineering analysis and database applications
Desirable skills:
- Experience in the management of multi-disciplinary teams during the feasibility, development, design and documentation phases of projects and programs
- Relevant post graduate engineering qualifications
- Project management skills and experience
- Full Australian driver’s licence for occasional site work
