We bring the energy – through purpose and people. Not just through the infrastructure we operate, but through the way we show up for each other, our customers’ and our communities. The future of energy is in our hands. Let’s shape it together.

As a Lead Field Engineer, Primary Plant, you will play a critical role in shaping the performance, reliability and future readiness of AusNet's Transmission network. You will utilise significant technical knowledge and experience to deliver sound technical advice for all of AusNet’s electricity stations assets.

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Be at the forefront of network reliability, providing critical emergency response support during network incidents and leading investigations into equipment failures, defects, and major events
  • Drive significant business value by improving the performance, risk management, and lifecycle strategies of primary plant assets, with a key focus on Terminal Stations
  • Lead complex engineering investigations, identifying root causes and delivering innovative, practical solutions to critical network challenges
  • Provide leadership to liaise and collaborate with internal stakeholders on a range of engineering issues and programs to determine practical business solutions for primary plant field assets
  • Provide input to, and work with others to perform:
    • Condition and risk assessment of installed equipment
    • Assist with the development of primary plant replace/refurbish/repair work scopes and initiate and assist with developing projects
    • Technical guidance and advice for field work groups on primary plant and associated equipment
    • Assist with business case development for strategic spares
  • Provide specialist technical expertise to the procurement and delivery of primary plant assets
  • Shape the future of the network, challenging conventional thinking, embracing new technologies, and driving smarter, more efficient ways of working

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on network safety, reliability, and the future performance of critical energy infrastructure.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience in utility industry with depth and breadth of knowledge in all aspects of plant and equipment up to 500kV
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a large range of primary plant operations
  • Understand the principles of strategic asset management and knowledge of contemporary asset management systems preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and lead initiatives to successfully delivery business outcomes
  • Current driver's licence required (travel to sites and offices as required)
  • Professional body membership: CP Eng (preferred), CIGRE if appropriate, Victoria Professional Engineers Registration

The AusNet experience is all about…

  • Solving some of the most complex energy challenges of our time: We love unpacking clever ways and looking at things differently.
  • Building an energy future to be proud of: We’re a trusted leader, with deep expertise, driven to do what’s right for our customers and communities.
  • Being apart a team that cares deeply about each other: We share in the good times. We support in the tough times. And we’re humble through and through.

We’re committed to building an inclusive culture and a diverse workforce. We believe different perspectives are essential to our success, and we encourage all applicants to apply. If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, we're happy to discuss how we can support you.

At AusNet, we bring the energy! Ready to make your impact? Apply now!
