We bring the energy!

Through purpose and people - not just through the infrastructure we operate, but through the way we show up for each other, our customers’ and our communities. The future of energy is in our hands. Let’s shape it together.

We all want a future of energy we can be proud of. With us you can.

Reporting to the Director, Contract Management, the Senior Commercial Manager is responsible for the management and administration of complex commercial processes on a major transmission infrastructure project. A key focus of the role is the assessment and management of contract claims, including supporting upstream claims with downstream input, while ensuring contractual requirements, obligations, risks and commercial protections are effectively managed.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, client representatives and key stakeholders, the role supports contract administration, contractual compliance, stakeholder alignment and commercial outcomes throughout project delivery. The Senior Commercial Manager will also lead a small team, navigate complex challenges and contribute to the ongoing delivery of commercial processes across the project.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage the head contract and key subcontract agreements, minimising risk, optimising commercial returns and building strong relationships with key delivery partners.
  • Lead assessment and development of contractual claims, bringing together commercial information from across the project, establishing clear positions and providing pragmatic, well-reasoned commercial advice that supports timely decision-making and protects commercial outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a small team responsible for administration of the project head contract, including implementation of contract obligations and compliance plans.
  • Oversee upstream contractual obligations, tracking and highlighting areas of gap, risk and opportunity across project leadership and the broader business.
  • Coordinate contractual variations and claims across upstream and downstream contract teams, ensuring alignment with commercial requirements.
  • Provide commercial support across key project activities including land, vegetation and stakeholder requirements.
  • Share knowledge and experience to support and educate the wider team on the project's commercial arrangements.
  • Participate in commercial working groups and build relationships with upstream clients to support collaboration and mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Advise on the commercial impacts of changes to legislation, regulations, standards, codes, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and present well considered position papers to executive level, including Board level on significant commercial matters as they arise
  • Review and drive continuous improvement of project procedures and policies.
  • Contribute to safety performance, governance, customer focus and leadership excellence.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we’re looking for a good combination of:

  • Degree in Law, Commerce, Engineering, Construction Management or other applicable discipline
  • 10+ years post graduate commercial and/or project management experience in large-scale infrastructure asset development and/or delivery.
  • Proven track record in managing contractual processes, including contract claims, notifications and KPI tracking across cross-functional and cross-organisational teams
  • Relevant experience in management of PPP or Incentivised Target Cost contracts, including variation or claim preparation.
  • An experienced people leader with an ability to influence a multi-disciplinary team and resolve complex challenges, preferably in the asset intensive industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate successful commercial outcomes with key internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative environment.
  • Highly adept in Microsoft Office suite; able to independently use software tools to track, analyse and communicate commercial items across broad teams.
  • Excellent ability to create high-quality quantitative analysis and written materials for presentation to senior management is essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
