We bring the energy!

Through purpose and people - not just through the infrastructure we operate, but through the way we show up for each other, our customers’ and our communities. The future of energy is in our hands. Let’s shape it together.

Are you ready to shape the future of energy?

We have an opportunity for a Lead Secondary Engineer to influence project outcomes through delegated technical authority, effective stakeholder engagement and the provision of high-quality engineering advice. This role contributes to engineering quality, technical assurance, capability development and continuous improvement across AusNet's contestable infrastructure portfolio, based out of Freshwater Place, Melbourne.

What you’ll help deliver

  • Leading the delivery and coordination of secondary design packages, ensuring technical outcomes are achieved to agreed quality, schedule and budget expectations.
  • Providing advanced technical, commercial, asset management and design advice within the secondary engineering discipline to support project development, delivery and operational objectives.
  • Shaping the technical direction across assigned projects by applying advanced engineering judgement to identify options, assumptions, constraints, interfaces, risks and recommendations, and by making recommendations and endorsing engineering decisions within delegated authority.
  • Leading technical reviews, design reviews, safety-in-design activities and engineering workshops within delegated authority.
  • Resolving complex technical issues and provide recommendations on matters involving significant technical, operational, constructability, maintainability and asset management considerations.
  • Promoting consistency of engineering practices, technical quality and design approaches across projects within the discipline.
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring Engineers and Senior Engineers, contributing to capability development and succession planning

You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:

  • At least 8 years’ experience designing secondary systems for high-voltage transmission substations.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, recognized by The Washington Accord.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) or eligible to obtain from BLA-Victoria.
  • Demonstrated experience producing, reviewing and checking detailed secondary system design outputs.
  • Strong end-to-end experience delivering substation projects, from concept development through to detailed design.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience in electricity transmission, terminal station and substation engineering, with proficiency in secondary engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance and asset management.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycles, engineering governance, safety-in design, technical assurance, design review, construction support, commissioning, handover and operational readiness requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex engineering challenges through the application of advanced technical expertise and practical problem-solving.
  • Ability to lead technical reviews and provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to Engineers and Senior Engineers.
  • Considerable knowledge of interfacing engineering disciplines and their impact on terminal station and substation design, constructability, operability, maintainability and equipment selection.
  • Demonstrated commitment to technical leadership, engineering quality, collaboration, capability development and continuous improvement.
  • Experience or exposure to IEC61850 communication standards would be extremely beneficial

The AusNet experience is all about…

  • Growing your impact: We’ll support you to build your career through real opportunities and strong connections.
  • Solving some of the most complex energy challenges of our time: We love unpacking complex challenges in clever ways and looking at things differently.
  • Building an energy future to be proud of: We’re a trusted leader, with deep expertise, driven to do what’s right for our communities and customers.

We’re committed to building an inclusive culture and a diverse workforce. We believe different perspectives are essential to our success, and we encourage all applicants to apply. If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, we're happy to discuss how we can support you.
