About the Role

The Gas Network Planning Engineer is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in network planning on AusNet’s gas network that supplies 760,000 residential, industrial, and commercial customers in western Melbourne, Geelong, and parts of western Victoria.

This includes development of short- and long-term system plans for gas assets, customer connections, detailed analysis of asset performance and the collection, analysis and reporting of Network Performance.

Working closely with Electricity Network Planning teams and Gas Asset Performance teams, the role will entail a balance of Network Planning and Network Control tasks to ensure the safety, reliability, and security of the network for current and future consumption needs.

Longer term, this role will provide the opportunity to diversify your skills and apply your network planning expertise into Electricity disciplines as we shift to a green gas solution.

This role will report to the Manger of Network Planning and is located at Southbank, Victoria.

What you will deliver

  • Network capacity of the gas system is in accordance with the Distribution Code
  • Winter and Summer Testing Program and preparedness plans development
  • Support in the development of role play scenarios of emergency situations
  • Develop models, scope of works and business cases to support augmentation, renewal, or growth of the gas network
  • Provide network planning support to residential, industrial, commercial supply applications and all tariff D, M and V investigations

What we like about you

  • Solid background in Gas Network Planning, with a strong understanding of how to plan and forecast network requirements
  • Knowledge of Gas Distribution System Code and regulations
  • Understanding of Gas network operations
  • Experience in the use of Synergi Gas, GIS, and SCADA
  • You understand the nuances of Gas Network Operations and have the ability to interpret complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A proactive and engaging approach when communicating with diverse stakeholders, cross functionally
