About the Role

As the Investment Manager BESS , you will be working closely with the Head of Energy Storage to lead the commercial negotiations, price, and manage key stakeholders and internal approval processes, related to the growth of AusNets BESS developments. The portfolio of assets relates to the growth of our BESS developments.

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity which will involve you taking accountability for a number of simultaneous opportunities and ensuring that the commercial, technical, financial and customer (off taker) requirements are aligned and that a final contract is negotiated to align to the AusNet return and risk appetite requirements.

This role will report to the Head of Energy Storage and is located at Southbank, Victoria. We are a flexible and truly hybrid workplace.

What you will deliver

  • Lead the identification, assessment and mitigation of commercial risks through effective pricing, contracting, and insurance strategies
  • Negotiate with the customers (off-takers), BESS OEM providers, contractors and other suppliers to ensure project wide value is optimised and realised across all parties involved in the transaction while mitigating risks
  • Present approval papers and business cases to relevant executives and delegates in seeking approvals specific to new infrastructure deals or variations
  • Build trusting relationships across the AusNet Services business with various internal stakeholder and ensure they are well informed during the negotiation process and utilise their feedback as subject matter experts, including Treasury, Finance and Legal
  • Manage objective commercial and pricing build up and provide insights to the Network Infrastructure team
  • Oversee the communications between OEM BESS suppliers / contractors to ensure that AusNet can comfortably deliver projects within time and budget with sufficient contractual protections.
  • Maintain and continue to build robust and effective commercial and contracting frameworks, processes and tools that support the informed “risk vs reward” assessment that capture sustainable growth opportunities for the BESS portfolio
  • Draft and complete the Approval papers in accordance with the relevant delegation manuals and assist in building the business case for relevant endorsees and present these business cases to relevant executive

What we like about you:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in finance, commerce or associated discipline
  • ICAA/CPA qualified, completion of post graduate studies (e.g., masters of business administration) and/or chartered environment experience well regarded
  • Detailed understanding of and ability to negotiate contracts, manage contracts and properly allocate risks across various stakeholders
  • Significant experience in commercial negotiations
  • Strong attention to detail and analytically minded
  • Ability to drive operational/performance outcomes through stakeholder management to consistently meet project deadlines
  • Strong understanding of financial implications for various risk positions and properly manage the risk / reward balance
