About the role
In this role, you will lead a high‑performing team of Investment Managers to deliver AusNet’s most important infrastructure deals. You’ll shape commercial strategy end‑to‑end, driving pricing and contracting decisions, navigating risks, and negotiating directly with Customers to unlock project value and grow our Connections Asset Base.
You’ll be the trusted commercial partner across the business, building strong relationships with Technical teams, Finance, Legal, our Customers and Delivery Partners. From crafting compelling investment cases to steering approvals at executive and board levels, you’ll bring clarity, insight and confidence to complex negotiations while helping deliver critical connections for Victoria’s energy future.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Investment Managers to deliver major infrastructure deals, driving Connections Asset Base growth through smart pricing, contracting and risk management.
- Negotiate directly with customers to optimise project value, secure long‑term partnerships, and align all parties to balanced commercial outcomes.
- Shape deal structures and commercial mechanisms that align with AusNet’s risk appetite and enable successful execution.
- Develop and present investment business cases and approval papers to executives and the board with clarity and influence.
- Build strong internal partnerships across Treasury, Finance, Legal, BD, Technical and Procurement to enable informed, cohesive deal execution.
- Oversee commercial and pricing analysis to support business cases, supplier negotiations, investment proposals and partnering arrangements.
- Work closely with suppliers and contractors to ensure agreements include appropriate allocation of risk to enable safe, successful project delivery
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in finance, commerce, law, engineering or a related field, with postgraduate study (e.g., MBA) highly regarded.
- 10+ years’ experience leading complex commercial negotiations, ideally within major infrastructure or energy environments.
- Proven success delivering infrastructure investment opportunities, particularly across energy connection projects.
- Strong financial acumen, with deep capability in corporate finance, infrastructure pricing and commercial risk allocation.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and build trust with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly analytical, detail‑driven, comfortable being hands-on and leading multidisciplinary teams across finance, technical, delivery and commercial functions.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate, manage and structure contracts that clearly allocate risk and support successful project delivery.
