We all want a future of energy we can be proud of. With us you can.

As a Senior Field Engineer, you’ll be in the front line working with our field crews where you’ll drive and support key maintenance and operational activities, mentor talented team members, and help shape the future of our energy infrastructure. This isn’t just about managing tasks—it’s about sharing your expertise to empower others and offering top-notch technical guidance on AusNet’s primary electricity assets. If you’re passionate about hands-on leadership and excited to work on projects that keep communities powered, we’d love to have you on board!

This role has 3/2 Hybrid split (Allows you to work across any site/depot across Victoria) and requires travel.

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Provide on-call emergency support for network incidents, investigating equipment failures, defects, and incidents.
  • Improve management practices for primary plant equipment, including Zone Substations, and field devices like Regulators, Pole Top Capacitors Reclosers etc.
  • Conduct engineering investigations for network issues and develop innovative, practical solutions.
  • Liaise with CEOT and work management teams for planning, scheduling, and monitoring efforts.
  • Work with Distribution Network Management and Operational teams to resolve engineering challenges with practical solutions.
  • Provide technical input on equipment condition, risk assessments, project scopes, and business cases for strategic needs.
  • Support the development and update of maintenance procedures for assets, focusing on periodic inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Evaluate risks related to primary plant operations and works, and collaborate to minimise underperformance and impact on the network.
  • Support health and safety initiatives, contributing to health and safety rate targets and a safety-focused work environment.

You don't need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in asset management, business management, or related technical areas preferred.
  • Proven experience in the utility industry with extensive knowledge of plant and equipment up to 66kV.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of primary plant operations.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, plan, and deliver effectively.
  • Operational Leadership skills in areas such as Drive for Results, Decision Quality, Business Acumen, Commercial Focus, Risk Management, Innovative Management, relationship building, organizational understanding, and developing people.
  • Experience with strategic asset management principles and familiarity with contemporary asset management systems is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to community and employee safety in service provision.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and lead initiatives for successful business outcomes.
  • High-level consulting, influencing, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a results-driven approach.
