Who We Are

Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) owns, operates and invests in infrastructure which delivers gas to more than two million homes and businesses, and is one of the largest gas infrastructure businesses in Australia. AGIG manages distribution networks, transmission pipelines and storage capacity. AGIG recently grew to over 1200 employees. We also manage a large contractor workforce, who provide both specialist and operating and maintenance services on AGIG’s gas distribution networks.

Our business is actively participating in the energy transition by delivering the natural gas needed today and advancing solutions for the future. Our Net Zero Ambition and emissions reduction targets outline our ongoing commitment to a sustainable energy future. We know that Australia’s energy transition will require a diverse range of energy supply. We will continue to work with customers and stakeholders to deliver and develop the energy infrastructure solutions essential to lowering emissions – including through natural gas, renewable gas and carbon capture and sequestration solutions.

About the Opportunity

Join Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) and help protect our data while supporting its safe and responsible use. As our Cyber Security Data Specialist, you will lead the design, implementation and improvement of data security solutions, helping to strengthen governance, monitoring and assurance across the business.

Reporting to the Senior Cyber Security Defence & Identity Manager within the Finance & Technology division, you will work closely with technology teams, business data owners, and our Legal and Privacy team to develop effective security controls, reduce risk, and support strong data security practices across AGIG.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation and ongoing operation of Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) capabilities, working collaboratively with technology providers to improve platforms, integrations, risk detection, and security controls.
  • Monitor and assess emerging data security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, recommending and implementing improvements to strengthen AGIG's data protection capabilities and security posture.
  • Partner with business data owners to review and validate data classification and handling practices, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and AGIG security standards.
  • Integrate data security systems with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools, developing dashboards and alerts to monitor sensitive data access and report on compliance.
  • Collaborate with data owners and IT Service Management colleagues to keep configuration records accurate and current within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Maintain records of how third parties use AGIG data, working with relevant colleagues and providers to support compliance with agreed security requirements.
  • Bring together and assess evidence for risk assessments, assurance reporting and governance reviews, helping stakeholders understand data security risks and address compliance gaps.
  • Coordinate data security incident responses within the Data Governance remit, including logging, gathering evidence and supporting teams to complete agreed actions, while building staff awareness and capability.

About You

  • At least four to five years’ experience in cyber security, including data governance, data security or operational assurance, with experience in a regulated environment.
  • A tertiary qualification in cyber security, information technology or a related discipline, or a relevant industry qualification.
  • Experience implementing and managing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies, configuring and tuning data security controls, and assessing operational data security risks. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to analyse evidence, articulate risk impacts, and escalate concerns appropriately to support informed decision-making.
  • Technical knowledge of ICT networks and cyber threats, with the communication skills to make technical concepts accessible to colleagues with different backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of data classification, access controls and handling standards, including non-compliance risks and the connections between data security, privacy, records management and cyber security.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships across technical, business and operational teams, share knowledge and contribute to consistent security practices and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, cyber security frameworks and cloud security is desirable
