Working in tech at Australia Post is where innovation and problem solving meets great people and agile working. You’ll work with bright people on building and maintaining products and services that you and every other Australian get to benefit from every day. Whether you’re working from our modern office or your one at home, you’ll be part of a culture of collaboration and connection, making long-lasting impact right across Australia.
About the opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Data Modeller with strong Master Data Management implementation expertise and solid data architecture fundamentals. The role focuses on defining clear conceptual and logical data models that directly enable robust MDM solutions. This role will translate business master data requirements into well-structured, governable models and work closely with architects, data stewards, and implementation teams to ensure the models support matching, survivorship, hierarchy management, and ongoing data quality.
This is a 1 year Fixed-Term Contract.
You’ll also
- Define and maintain conceptual and logical data models specifically designed to support MDM domains (Customer, Location, etc.), ensuring clarity on entities, relationships, hierarchies, and golden-record concepts.
- Translate business requirements and data stewardship needs into precise logical models that enable MDM capabilities such as matching & merging, survivorship rules, cross-referencing, and hierarchy management.
- Collaborate with data architects to ensure models align with overall data architecture principles, integration patterns, and enterprise data standards while remaining fit-for-purpose for MDM platforms.
- Support MDM solution design by providing clear model specifications that guide configuration of matching algorithms, data quality rules, workflows, and master data services.
- Document models comprehensively (including definitions, business rules, and MDM-specific constructs) and maintain model integrity through change control as the MDM implementation evolves.
- Contribute data modelling expertise during MDM tool evaluation, implementation, and enhancement phases, ensuring the models remain practical and implementable.
- Partner with technical teams on physical realisation considerations and integration impacts while keeping primary focus on conceptual/logical modelling excellence for MDM success.
About you
We’re looking for someone with strong conceptual and logical data modelling expertise who can work closely with technical teams to understand physical implementation and integration impacts. You’ll also collaborate with business data owners and stewards to validate model accuracy, resolve ambiguity and embed key governance requirements, including data ownership, quality measures and lifecycle rules.
You’ll also need
- Proven experience in data modelling, data architecture, or a related role. This role is more than just pure Data Modelling, if you are a Data Architect with data modelling experience then that is an ideal background.
- Proven Data Modelling skills with strong Master Data Management implementation expertise and solid data architecture fundamentals
- Knowledge of diverse data modelling techniques such as dimensional modelling, data vault, 3NF, etc.Proficient in using ER/Studio or Erwin for enterprise data modelling, including logical and physical model design, metadata management, lineage, and model governance.
- Implement and optimise physical data models into cloud (we use Google BigQuery), ensuring alignment with platform capabilities and performance considerations.
What else is in it for you?
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements, like the opportunity to work from home two days per week
- Opportunities for growth and development through formal programs or mentorship
- Exclusive team member discounts and offers for more cash in your pocket, evolving policies for flexible working, leave types and access to health and wellbeing resources
