About the opportunity

The e-commerce landscape is evolving rapidly, and Australian businesses, consumers, and the broader community need services that align with how they transact, shop, pay, and deliver in a digital world.

As a Senior Java Developer, you will be a key contributor to the Parcel Systems team, driving the development and enhancement of microservices that support Australia Post’s parcel operations.

This role is ideal for a seasoned support engineer who thrives on inspiring change and fostering a DevOps culture. You will provide expert guidance on application architecture, development, automation, security, scalability, and operational readiness for both traditional and cloud-based solutions.

What you’ll deliver with us

  • Develop & Support Applications – Implement, configure, and maintain applications to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability, resolving incidents and requests in line with SLAs.
  • Drive a DevOps Culture – Actively foster a DevOps mindset, encouraging automation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Enhance Operational Efficiency – Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance value, productivity, and scalability.
  • Collaborate Across Teams – Work cross-functionally with delivery and operational teams to ensure cohesive, customer-focused outcomes.
  • Ensure Secure & Scalable Solutions – Develop high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions while maintaining version control and documentation.
  • Monitor & Manage Change – Adhere to change control procedures, assess system requirements, and proactively address issues before implementation.
  • Stay Ahead of Industry Trends – Keep up with evolving technology and security standards, ensuring compliance and best practices.

About you

  • Experienced Java Developer – Strong background in Java 11+, Spring Boot, and JPA, with expertise in developing and maintaining microservices.
  • Cloud & Containerisation Proficiency – Skilled in designing, deploying, and supporting AWS/GCP native applications using Docker.
  • CI/CD & Source Code Management – Deep understanding of version control, automated builds, packaging, and deployments within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Test-Driven Development (TDD) – Hands-on experience with automation testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito and Selenium WebDriver to ensure high-quality, testable code.
  • Scalability & Security Focused – Proven track record in developing secure, high-traffic applications, following best practices in secure coding and software development.
  • Collaborative & Influential – Ability to build strong relationships, engage and influence stakeholders, and drive architectural and operational improvements.
  • DevOps & Agile Advocate – Passionate about fostering a DevOps culture, with extensive knowledge of agile principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) DBs.
