  • Drive commercial strategy across a complex, high-value portfolio.
  • Lead strategic Defence programs and influence key business outcomes.
  • Join a strong, collaborative and high-performing commercial team.

About the Role

At Babcock, we're growing our Commercial capability and are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to play a pivotal leadership role within our Strategic Communications portfolio. This is an opportunity to influence critical business outcomes, lead a high-performing team, and partner with senior leaders to deliver commercially successful programs across a complex and dynamic environment.

You will provide strategic commercial direction, ensuring effective management of commercial risk, governance, customer contracts, and business growth initiatives. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will work closely with delivery units and functional leaders to shape commercial strategy, support major bids and pursuits, strengthen customer relationships, and drive sustainable growth while protecting Babcock's commercial interests.

This role offers leadership across the entire commercial lifecycle, from opportunity identification and capture through to contract execution and delivery. You'll have oversight of significant customer contracts, lead complex negotiations, drive commercial governance and risk management activities, and ensure best-practice commercial outcomes are embedded throughout the business.

As a people leader, you will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. You'll also play a key role in supporting strategic business development activities, helping shape winning solutions for customers while balancing risk and reward.

If you're a commercially astute leader with experience managing complex contracts, influencing senior stakeholders, leading high-performing teams, and contributing to business growth, we'd love to hear from you

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Business, Commence, Law, Finance or equivalent working experience.
  • Extensive experience in commercial, contracts, or related leadership roles within complex Defence, Government, engineering, infrastructure, or project-based environments.
  • Significant experience leading commercial teams and developing commercial capability.
  • Extensive experience in contract negotiation, contract management, and customer relationship management.
  • Experience leading commercial aspects of major bids, opportunities, and strategic pursuits.
  • Experience operating within structured governance frameworks and Delegations of Authority.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and support strategic business decision making.

Your future at Babcock – what we offer you

  • Our agile working policies offer more choice and autonomy. For you, this could mean flexible start and finish times, a mix of office and home working, or even condensed working weeks.
