At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a HSE Operational Assurance Manager at any of our main UK locations. This role supports a UK-wide operation and will involve travel across Babcock sites.
The role
As an HSE Operational Assurance Manager, you’ll lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety management systems, audit programmes and compliance frameworks. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, you'll help ensure alignment with business objectives, legal requirements and internationally recognised standards.
This role is best suited to candidates with a background in HSE assurance, governance, auditing or management systems rather than operational site-based health and safety management.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Drive audit, assurance and compliance programmes to maintain robust operational standards.
- Analyse health, safety and environmental performance data and producing reports for senior stakeholders.
- Support ISO certification activities, continual improvement initiatives and business transformation programmes.
- Influence stakeholders at all levels to strengthen risk management, compliance and operational performance.
- Lead the development, implementation, governance and continuous improvement of ISO-certified Environmental, Health and Safety management systems.
- Lead HSE assurance programmes across the business, providing independent oversight of compliance, risk management and management system effectiveness.
- Support HSE assurance and compliance activities across Babcock's Land Sector operations.
This is a full-time, 37-hour per week and is a home-based/hybrid role with regular travel to Babcock sites across the UK.
Essential experience of the HSE Operational Assurance Manager
- Experience providing assurance findings, performance reports and recommendations to senior leadership teams.
- Significant experience leading HSE assurance programmes within a complex, multi-site organisation.
- Experience leading audit programmes, including planning, delivery and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Significant experience managing EHS management systems.
- Experience maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications.
Qualifications for the HSE Operational Assurance Manager
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualification).
- Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
Desirable Qualifications:

- Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM or equivalent).

This role requires the successful candidate to be eligible for and maintain SC clearance.
Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
