Babcock New Zealand are looking for an experienced Carpenter/Shipwright to join our Outfit team based on the Devonport Naval Base.
About the role
In this role, you will execute a range of Shipwright activities associated with ship and shore-based Maintenance, Overhaul and Installation activities across the RNZ Navy assets and Babcock site.
- $34 per hour (5% pay rise guaranteed from 1st October)
- 1.5x paid after 40hrs
- 2x paid after 43hrs

Key responsibilities
- Shipwright Activities: Execute various Shipwright activities, including constructing keel blocking, cradles, shoring, cribbing, and other structures to support ships in dry docks or slipways.
- Carpentry and Furniture Repair: Repair, manufacture, and install furniture, cabinetry, bulkheads, deck head structures, windows, doors, and other elements in commercial and marine structures.
- Flooring Work: Lay, replace, and repair floor coverings such as carpet, linoleum, vinyl, and wooden flooring.
- Insulation and Lagging: Perform insulation installs, repairs, or removals.
- Maintenance and Collaboration: Assist in general carpentry requirements for Babcock leased buildings, work collaboratively with other Babcock Maintenance teams during peak periods, and engage in compliance and planned training to maintain suitable skills for the role.

- Carpentry Skills: Proficiency in carpentry techniques, including the ability to repair, manufacture, and install various structures and furniture.
- Flooring Expertise: Knowledge of different flooring types and the ability to lay, replace, and repair them, including carpet, linoleum, vinyl, and wooden flooring.
- Insulation and Lagging: Experience with insulation installation, repair, or removal, demonstrating an understanding of insulation materials and methods.
- Maintenance and Repair: Competency in general maintenance and repair work, especially related to ship and marine structures.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a trades environment. Working with other departments and teams within the organization, as well as subcontractors and client representatives.
