Babcock New Zealand are looking for Electrical Service Technician to join our highly-skilled team in Auckland on an 18-month contract.
About the role
Babcock New Zealand has been tasked with upgraded the High Frequency Communications Network across the country and we need qualified Electrical Service Technicians to add to our highly-skilled team.
Join our team as an Electrical Service Technician and play a crucial role in maintaining and supporting defence communications capability for the Royal New Zealand Navy and the New Zealand Defence Force.
You’ll work in a dynamic environment, ensuring the continuous provision of HF communications.

Role Specifics
- $103k starting salary
- 18-month fixed term contract
- Whenuapai based role but will involve nationwide travel
- OT rates paid at 1.5x after 40hrs & 2x after 43hrs
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the HF Communications System is maintained to meet contractual KPIs.
- Support the delivery of HF Communications capability to NZDF.
- Contribute to KPI reports for the wider team.
- Assist in developing and managing maintenance and repair processes.
- Participate in HF Communications System training and compliance with safety regulations.
- Mentoring/supervising others to achieving EST status
About you
As the ideal candidate, you will have an Electrical Service Technician License, at least one year of experience in Radio Communications and Electronics, coupled with strong diagnostic abilities. Excellent organizational and time management skills are crucial, along with a thorough knowledge of NZ electrical safety regulations. A proactive problem solver with good communication skills and proficiency in MS Office applications would be a great fit.
Familiarity with Defence or Communications environments and the ability to create technical instructional materials would be desirable qualities.
NZ EWRB Registration, a National Diploma in Engineering (Electrotechnology), or having an industry qualification in Computer and Networking knowledge will be highly regarded.
