About the Opportunity
The Senior Application Packager will work closely with the Air Component – Command and Control Capability System (AC-C2CS) Project Engineering Manager and AC-C2CS Project Team members to package and deliver a number of existing third party software applications to run on Defence networks.
In more specific terms, you will:
- Perform investigation into the software product(s) to be packaged using knowledge of the various Defence ICT platform architectures.
- Undertake engineering work under a system lifecycle management framework and in accordance with the customer mandated technical regulatory framework.
- Develop application package designs and then proceed with packaging the applications and facilitate the testing of the packages in test and production environments.
- Understand configuration changes required to Workstation policies, Firewall Rules, application whitelisting and other system and network constraints to ensure the packaged application will function in the target network environment. This will include documenting installation requirements, arranging update windows and then supporting application installation testing.
- Develop installation processes to ensure the application installs (and uninstalls) correctly when deployed through System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
- Collaboratively work with the other application packaging and test team members to work through and resolve all issues during testing.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Microsoft target platforms and technologies, including MS Windows based client workstations and servers running operating systems including Windows 10 Thick and Thin Clients, Windows Server 2012, 2016 and 2019, and App-V application virtualization. Knowledge of Solaris and Linux environments is also desirable. This requires in-depth knowledge of the Defence application and Network environment.
- Have extensive skills in scripting Powershell and .NET based configuration and installation tools. Knowledge of Java based applications and middleware installation architectures is also highly desirable.
- Manage compatibility issues between applications, and the target platform in order to enable the application to function, in some cases in “legacy” environments.
About you
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:
- Experience in Software Engineering or equivalent software development experience, especially in Application Packaging.
- Tertiary qualifications and experience in Information Communication Technologies (ICT), Software or Systems Engineering.
- Experience with software engineering, and all stages of the engineering lifecycle.
- The ability to hold an Australian defence security clearance at a minimum level of Negative Vetting 2 (NV2).
- The ability to use and adapt high level written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of difference audiences which include external stakeholders at a senior level.
- The aptitude to rapidly pick up new concepts and adapt to changes in the Defence network environments.
